Dr David Rosenthal has practised as a rural GP in his home town of Renmark in the South Australian Riverland for more than thirty five years. In addition to accepting a rural clinical workload, including anaesthetics, he is active as Senior Lecturer in rural medical education at the Flinders University, and in a successful local teaching program he is involved with the placement and education of eight medical students who spend their entire third year of study based in general practices in the Riverland. He was foundation President of the South Australian Rural Doctors Association and later a President of the National Rural Doctors Association. David is interested in the construction of rural health care delivery systems and in the education of both medical students and intending rural general practitioners. He is an inaugural Board member of the Rural Health Education Foundation. He is also Chief Consultant, Safety & Quality for Country Health SA. He has one daughter who is also a doctor and who is preparing for general practice. His interests outside medicine include gardening , fishing, musical performance, and international travel.
