Women’s Health Assessment

It is recommended to see your doctor regularly for a health check even if you are currently feeling fit and healthy. Regular checks can assist in identifying health concerns at an early stage before they develop into something more serious and prevent and detect serious illnesses.

If you have a family history of a certain disease or risk factors, having regular health checks and screenings are highly important.

As part of this assessment, you will be allocated 15 minutes with your doctor will check blood pressure, height and weight and complete bloods if bloods haven’t been taken recently to test cholesterol levels, blood glucose levels and any other relevant blood tests based on your history.

Screening recommended for women include:

  • Cervical screening test that needs to be competed every five years, women who would benefit from a cervical screening test are women aged between 25-74 years of age or when sexually active.
  • Breast screening SA provides a free breast screening mammogram every two years to women in South Australia who are aged between 50 to 74 with the aims to diagnose breast cancer in the early stages. Early detection can maximize the options for simple treatment and more successful outcomes.
  • Women aged 50-74 years of age are recommended to complete a bowel screening which tests for bowel cancer for people who do not have any obvious symptoms of the disease.
  • Other important health screening to consider.
    • Skin checks
    • Bone density screening
    • Echocardiogram (heart function testing)
